Greek Democracy
For our city-state's government, we chose a democracy. A democracy is a form of government which includes voting by the people, a high individual who can veto or pass laws, and a council of elders who advise the higher individual.
Our democracy works a little differently. To start off, we don't have the 'higher individual', instead; we have our council of 500 members. The criteria for becoming a member are as follows...
In our democracy, only male citizens may vote. The requirements to be a citizen are to be at least 25 years of age and they and their parents must be native-born. There is a council of 500 select men who every week meet to collaborate and discuss major problems occurring within and outside the city-state. The 500 men council is split into three separate branches much like the use of the U.S. government. The Citizen Issues Branch consists of 150 male citizens. All situations dealing with the citizens of Thallasa get written down and sent in to this branch. This includes funerals, taxes, and arguments. The Public Affairs Branch has 200 people because of the higher risk of problems between other places that could possibly destroy our city-state. Things like trades, war, peace offerings, and anything else that has any relation to outsiders and other places get sent to this branch. The final branch is the Legislative Branch which deals with the laws of the city-state. This branch includes 150 people. They make laws based on the information from the other branches. Without their back-up, this branch can not make any new laws. Though each of these branches have completely different jobs from each other, they all must meet at the full meeting, otherwise known as The Meeting which happens every week, to discuss all solutions and problems and came up within the branches. All situations should be given a fitting solution and all solutions must be voted on. The minimum requirement of votes to pass something is 300 people or 3/5 of the council. Same goes for the laws. Every law made must be voted on before taking effect. The reason for having The Meeting is to get a fair input of opinions. Seeing as the council is made up of citizens, there should not be and persecution or anything else of the sort.
The tree diagram below will show how our government is split up and all the information of the branches.
