Social Classes
There are many variations of social classes in our city-state of Thallasa. The women in Thallasa stay at home cooking and cleaning while the men go off to work either in the military or other job. Jobs for men may include being a blacksmith, politician, farmer, actor, carpenter, historian (recorded events), potter, doctor, merchant, fisherman, shepards, etc. The boys go to school while the girls stay home with their mothers and help with the housework. In our city-state, there are about 17,000 adult men, 21,000 adult women, 20,000 children, and 70,000 slaves. Each household has a minimum of 1 slave each. The slaves are a tax on the citizens of our city-state since each household must purchase at least one. Slaves that aren't owned by individual households are put in boats to row do manual labor. There are also about 2,000 foreigners necessary for trade; these foreigners are mostly merchants or traders. These foregners bring rare imported goods from other city-states that would otherwise be challenging to obtain.
NOTE: The colors on this graph have nothing to do with anything. Be sure to take note of the different sizes of each section.
From what can be seen about this pyramid graph, we can conclude that there is a very fine line of inequality. Slaves are, obviously, at the bottom while the male citizens are at the top. Why all males are not included is because some could be foreigners, some could be slaves, and some could be young boys who are not up to age. There are different rankings of the males as not all of them have the same job. As stated in the "Government" tab, there are only 500 politicians that are needed in our government, therefore; the box containing the word "Politicians" is slightly smaller that the others. The next group is soldiers. Soldiers are higher up in our society because they are well respected having protected the city-state from attacks. They are honored in our society and taught very well. Though most of our military is made up of navy units, we still must maintain a balance by having a unit on land. Under soldiers are other jobs. They are not as respected as soldiers, but they are just as important as them. Jobs like farming and fishing produce food needed to feed the state and/or trade for new items. Blacksmithing and metalsmithing create beautiful works that can be traded to make money and for other necessities while merchants help in that factor. Women would do good in some of these places, but instead they are to be at home tending of the domestic affairs.
Women are the middle group. Unlike the U.S, the women in our city-state must stay home and were not to participate in any public affairs. They are only taught how to read, write and count as it is necessary to pay for bills and shopping. Women are in charge of everything house related like cooking, cleaning, taking care of the children, bills, shopping, and even making the clothing. They are not allowed to choose who the married, that was left up to the woman's father, and Children are also split into gender groups of inequality. The boys go off to school while the girls stay home to learn from their mothers. They would then continue the pyramid for generations to come.
Slaves are the bottom of the bottom. They have no freedom whatsoever and can not escape or be freed. This group is by far the largest because all Greeks believed all non-Greeks were inferior, therefore; they captured and enslaved them. They didn't care how the slaves felt, no one cares how the lower class feels. They just thought, "We're too lazy to do these boring jobs, so we'll get others and force them to do it for us." Slaves basically came from our own laziness, so it is the largest group here. Even if they are treated with disrespect and tortured, they are still an important aspect of our civilization.
